Clinical Review

A licensed provider evaluates your condition and determines clinical appropriateness for Washington in accordance with applicable guidelines.

Documentation

If clinically appropriate, documentation is issued by your licensed provider based on their professional judgment.

Who May Qualify

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Panic disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Other qualifying mental health conditions

Evaluations in Washington are conducted by licensed professionals in accordance with federal housing guidance. Documentation is issued only when medically appropriate.

Special circumstances.

  • The Washington Law Against Discrimination (RCW 49.60.222) prohibits assistance-animal pet fees in housing. Reliable documentation may be requested but not your medical records.
  • Owner-occupied 4-or-fewer-unit buildings (and certain single-family rentals by small owners) are exempt from these state housing protections.
  • Misrepresenting an animal as a service animal is a civil infraction up to $500 (RCW 49.60.214).
  • ESAs do not have public-accommodation access rights in Washington (RCW 49.60.215).
