Evaluations in Minnesota are conducted by licensed professionals in accordance with federal housing guidance. Documentation is issued only when medically appropriate.

Special circumstances.

  • Housing rights: Minn. Stat. 504B.113 codifies the process for requesting a support animal in housing. No task training is required for a support animal.
  • A landlord may ask for a statement from a qualified professional confirming your disability-related need. Minnesota sets no minimum relationship length, and telehealth evaluations are permitted.
  • Minnesota did not adopt a waiting period, so documentation can be issued on our normal turnaround once the evaluation is complete.
  • Misrepresenting an animal as a support animal in housing carries a civil penalty of up to $1,000 per animal, and a landlord may deny the request or pursue eviction (Minn. Stat. 504B.113).
  • ESAs do not have public-accommodation access rights in Minnesota (Minn. Stat. 363A.11, 609.833).
